Course Information
Description This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of financial accounting as prescribed by U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as applied to transactions and events that affect business organizations. Students will examine the procedures and systems to accumulate, analyze, measure, and record financial transactions. Students will use recorded financial information to prepare a balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and statement of shareholders' equity to communicate the business entity's results of operations and financial position to users of financial information who are external to the company. Students will study the nature of assets, liabilities, and owners' equity while learning to use reported financial information for purposes of making decisions about the company. Students will be exposed to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Instructor Policies Weekly Homework: Blackboard Ultra
1. Read Chapter for the week.
2. Watch online lecture 
3. Study Key Terms.
4. Work any assignments for that week. 

Quizzes, Exams and Finals: 
Students have 72 hours to take the exams, 1 week to take quizzes, and one day to take the final.  All exams, quizzes and final are timed. You get 1 minute per question.  Once you open the exam, quiz or final, you are to complete it in one sitting.  Instructor will not reopen any exam, quiz or final unless there is an issue out of control of the student. (example: internet goes down, electric goes out)  If student fails to take the exam, quiz or final, the student will receive a zero.  Quizzes and exams are through blackboard.  The final is through Pearson MyLab. 

Assignments:
Instructor will not reopen any assignment after the due date. No late assignments will be accepted.  All assignments not completed will receive a zero for the assignment. All assignments are through Pearson MyLab.  Instructor opens all assignments and quizzes on the first day of class.  Students may work ahead.  But it is the student's responsibility to know when exams and finals are to be taken.  


Books:
Every student must have a copy of the required textbook or E-book as soon as the bookstore has it available. First week of class, a zoom meeting will be scheduled with the Pearson Rep.  She will help and walk you know on how to get temporary access to the book if your book has not come in from the book store.  I urge you to attend.  Other items will be discussed.

Failure to follow instructions (written or oral) will result in penalties.

Instructor will put grades into Blackboard after the close of each week. Students should keep a record of their own grades and average. Instructors will not average grades for students.

Dishonest/Cheating:
1.  Any student caught cheating or lending their work to another student, both students will receive a zero on the assignment.  There is a difference between helping and showing someone how to do the problem and someone giving their assignment to a student to copy. 
 2.  Any student caught cheating on a test or final, will receive a "F" for the course.  The exams and finals are recorded and I do watch them.


It is student's responsibility to check their email and blackboard ultra once a day for any updates to class schedules or class work. 

Blackboard Issues:
Any log in, passwords, or software problems needs to be resolved by the IT department.  Please inform your instructor of any delays resulting for IT problems that can't be solved by class work deadlines.

Pearson Issues: If you have issues with Pearson, student is to call Pearson Tech support.  Please inform your instructor of any delays resulting with Pearson issues. 

Attendance Policy This is an online class.  Although attendance is not taken, instructor can see when the last time you were logged in and what assignments have been opened by the student.  This is a class that needs to be worked on everyday.  If you have a vacation, procedure, etc. planned, it is the students responsibility to plan ahead and complete the work by the due date.  Please take exams opening and closing dates into account, when planning a time you will not be available.  No opening and closing dates will be adjusted for a student.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. Facility Policies No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
